Adding Doors and Windows

Doors and windows are hosted by walls
Use alignment lines and temporary dimensions to place the opening
Tags are included automatically as you add the door or window
Enter SM to place opening directly at the midpoint of wall

Add Door

Activate 1st Floor
Select any grid line, enter VH to hide by category
Architecture tab > Build panel > Door
Type Selector - Single Flush: 0915 x 2134mm
Make sure Tag on Placement is on


Place the door at the left exterior wall, change the tag to 101
Press spacebar to flip the door


Place the doors as shown
Tag number automatically increase based on the 1st door added

Cross-select all elements
Filter panel > Filter


Select Door only
Type Selector - Single Flush: 0915 x 2032mm

Zoom-in to the top-right corner
Mode panel > Load Family
Library folder/ US Metric folder/ Door folder/ M_Double-Glass 1
Type Selector - M-Double-Glass 1: 1830 x 2134mm


Place the door at the end of the hall
Quick Access toolbar > Aligned Dimension


Select inner of left wall, center of door, inner of right wall
Click the EQ control to centered between 2 doors and lock them

Delete the dimension


Click OK to maintain the EQ constraint

Load a Door Type

Architecture tab > Build panel > Door
Mode panel > Load Family
US Metric floder/ Doors folder/ M_Double-Flush-Dbl Acting.rfa
Type Selector - 1830 x 1981



Add Doors on 2nd Floor

Activate 2nd Floor
Turn off the grid lines
Architecture tab > Build panel > Door
Type Selector - M_Single Flush: 0915 x 2032mm


Place the 1st door and change the door tag to 201
Continue add the same door by imported CAD file

Create New Door Type

Type Selector - M_Single Flush: 0762 x 2032mm
Edit Type - Duplicate - 0620 x 2032mm
Change the width to 620
Add the new doors by inported CAD file

Load door family - M_Bifold-4 Panel: 1830 x 2032mm


Add the Bifold Doors as shown

Load door family - M_Double - Glass 1: 1830 x 2134mm


Add the double glass door at the balcony

Add and Copy Window

View control bar - Reveal Hidden Elements
Select the grid, Reveal Hidden Elements panel > Toggle Reveal Hidden Elements Mode

Architectyre tab > Build panel > Window
Mode panel > Load Family
US Metric folder/ Window folder/ M_Casement 3x3 with Trim
Type Selector - M_Casement 3x3 with Trim: 0915 x 1220mm


Add 4 windows as shown, exact location is not important


Use the temporary dimension to adjust the window closest to the stair grid line at 790


Use Aligned dimension, make it equal and lock the padlock

Use temporary dimension to adjust the center of the 1st window to the grid at 1400
Delete the Aligned dimension but keep the constraint

Change to 3D view
Ctrl-select all windows
Clipboard panel > Copy to Clipboard
Clipboard panel > Paste - Aligned to Selected Levels


Shift-select 3rd to 8th Floor

Add Windows on 1st Floor

Activate 1st Floor
Architecture tab > Build panel > Window
Type Selector - Casement 3x3 with Trim: 0915 x 1220mm
Edit Type - Duplicate


Name: 1220 x 1220mm


Width: 1220

Add the 1st window


Click on the temporary dimension, change it to 1140


Click on the H icon to make it permanent


Select the dimension, drag the witness line to the center of window and lock it


Add the 2nd windowdrag the witness line to the center of left and right window 
Change the dimension to 1750


Repeat the same steps on the other 2 windows


Place 2 more windows on the back wall

Modify the Curtain Wall

Curtain walls are non-bearing walls consisting panels laidout in a grid pattern
They can encase an entire building like a membrane
Storefront is a cutout of a standard wall

Activate South Elevation view
Ctrl-select a grid and a level line
Enter VH
This will hide all grid lines and level lines

Ctrl-select 3 parapet walls



Properties palettes - Base Offset: -610

Ctrl-select 3 curtain walls



Properties palettes - Top Offset: -610


Horizontal Grid - Offset: 1220




Add Grid Lines

Select the grid line and unpin it


Modify panel > Align


Select the top of lower wall sill, then select the grid line

Add 3 Curtain Grids aligned with the top of the reveal in the brick


Select 4 grid lines, move down 20mm
Add 4 grid lines each on the other 2 curtain walls

Add and Modify Mullion

Architecture tab > Build panel > Mullion


Placement panel > All Grid Lines
Select each curtain wall

Isolate Mullion

Select one of the mullion


View Control bar - Temporary Hide/Isolate - Isolate Category
This will only show all the mullion

Delete the extra mullions between curtain walls


Select the bottom row of mullions


Mullion panel > Make Continuous


Repeate the same steps on the top row of mullions
Reset Temporary Hide/Isolate


Add Storefront Entrance

Activate 1st Floor


Place a storefront within the existing wall (snap to the center of the wall)
600 from center of left column, length 4000

Properties palette -
Base Offset: 0.0
Top Constraint: Up to Level: 2nd Floor
Top Offset: -1850

Change to South Elevation view


Window-select the storefront, enter UP to unpin all elements


Use temporary dimension to change the grid lines to 1000, 2000, 1000


Add a Door in the Storefront

Architecture tab > Build panel > Door
Mode panel > Load Family
US Metric folder/ Door folder/ M_Curtain Wall Storefront-Dbl.rfa
Click Modify to end the command

Tab-select the panel, Type Selector - Storefront Double Door


Add a Storefront on the Back Wall

Architecture tab > Build panel > Wall
Type Selector - Curtain Wall Storefront

Properties palettes -
Top Constraint: Up to Level: 2nd Floor
Top Offset: -3145



Add a curtain wall width 3850mm

Repeat the same command
Base Offset: 1066
Top Constraint: Up to Level: 2nd Floor
Top Offset: -3145


Add another storefront width 3850mm on the right side

Duplicate Views

Model with different scale used on different sheet
Instead of redraw, duplicate views and modify them to suit your needs
A view or callout of floor plan can be duplicated and modified to create dimension plan, furniture plan

Project Browser - 1st Floor Plan - Right-click - Duplicate View - Duplicate with Detailing
A copy of view with door tags is created
Right-click on the new view - Rename - 1st Floor with Pool
View Control bar - 1:200
All annotations become larger, they need to plot at this scale
Activate 1st Floor


View Control bar - Show Crop Region
Zoom-out to see the full extents abd select it


Adjust the crop region to show only the main building
View Control bar - Hide Crop Region
2nd Floor Plan - Right-click - Duplicate View - Duplicate
This create a new view without any annotations
Rename it to Typical Guest Room Floor Plan
Turn on the Crop Region and select it

Properties paletter

Check the Annotation Crop
Adjust the main crop region, Annotation Crop Region follow as well

Adjust the Annotation Crop Region below the Structure Grids
Turn off the crop region
Select the grid lines, enter "VH" to hide them by category
Enter ZF or ZE to zoom-out to fit the view

Add Callout View

View tab > Create panel > Callout



Place it around one of the guest room



Move the bubble to the top-right corner
Click the empty space to deselect the callout

Double-click on the bubble and go to the view
Rename the view to Typical Guest Room - Dimension Plan

Properties paletter - Underlay: None
Duplcate the callout view, rename it to Typical Guest Room - Furniture Plan

Activate 1st Floor
View tab > Create panel > Callout



Place the callout on 3 location: Stair on lower-left and top-right corner, Restroom beside the stair
Rename to "1st Floor Stair 1", 1st Floor Restroom", "1st Floor Stair 2"


Override Graphic in Views

Activate Typical Guest Room - Dimension Plan
Enter VG


Clear the check mark for Casework, Furniture, Furniture System, Plumbing Fixture
Furniture placed in the model not show in this view

Activate Typical Guest Room - Furniture Plan
Enter VG
Click [All] button, then click Halftone
All elements set to halftone
Click [None] to deselect all categories
Clear the check mark for Casework, Furniture, Furniture System, Plumbing Fixture
Click [Apply] to set changes without exiting the dialog box

Annotation Categories tab - Clear "Show annotation categories in this view"



The view display all elements in halftone
